Stephanie and I had an early and last outreach for the summer at Pensacola Beach Visitor’s Center. We were there for five hours promoting summer safety, mosquito and mosquito prevention. This time, we had different informational hand outs, like sugar shockers that showed how much sugar was in certain products. Products like soda, juice, and energy drinks was what was shown. We also handed out sun screen and informed the visitors and locals about services the health department have to offer. We also had a tear away sheet about mosquitoes for the children and remind them to drain and cover.
After that, when I got back to the office, I worked on the final draft of the summer safety presentation for the community partners. I decided to put more information in the notes section, as it was stated that most of the community partners would have the same health literacy as health educators. I didn’t need to use Flesch-Kincaid for this presentation. Hungry for Justice was canceled due to attendance.

I started the morning with driving to Perdido Key Visitor’s Center with Skye. We informed tourists and visitors about Summer Safety and that lasted until about 1 o’clock. After that, I got back to CHEN and started making revisions on last week’s Healthy Babies brochure and short messages. Some of the links on the short messages were sources and not information that the viewers would be able to interpret for more information. I was able to change two of them to provide some of the WIC’s services and another one to explain what premature birth is. I had to change some of the brochure’s content because it focused too much on one specific topic, rather than the entire Healthy Babies elements that make up the module. That sums up my Monday’s work.

I finished the CDC Clear Communication Index and the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Recipes of the Week. They’re simple tasks that only took about an hour and a half to accomplish. I met up with Kara at Pensacola Beach Visitor’s Center to promote Summer Safety. We had tear-away sheets for targeted for parents about different ways to drink water. We also had brochures about Drain & Cover for mosquito prevention,
5-2-1-0, Summer Safety, and Cancer Prevention. We gave out other various items, such as 5-2-1-0 grocery bags, with sunscreen lotion, inflatable beach balls, and color changing sunglasses. We also used the model to show the difference between burnt skin and regular skin. We were able to give out more than half of what we brought. It was a fun experience reaching out to the locals and tourists.
